Unexplained infertility clinics in Toronto
Toronto and GTA fertility clinics for couples with normal workups who still aren't conceiving — diagnostic depth and stepwise treatment beyond the default IVF default.
Unexplained infertility is the most frustrating diagnosis in fertility medicine: workups are normal, ovulation is regular, sperm parameters are fine, the tubes are open, the uterus looks unremarkable — and yet, no pregnancy. Roughly one in four infertility cases ends up labeled unexplained. The Toronto IVF clinics with strong unexplained-infertility programs do two things differently: they push the workup further before defaulting to IVF (including DNA fragmentation, immune screening, deeper hormonal panels), and they treat stepwise — letrozole IUI before IVF when the patient's age allows — rather than going straight to IVF for every patient. Every clinic on this list has published experience treating unexplained infertility. Ask the clinic specifically how they'd approach your case stepwise, and whether they'd recommend more workup or proceed directly to treatment.
Inclusion: clinic publishes treatment of unexplained infertility in its 'conditions treated' information, or offers comprehensive IUI and IVF programs with diagnostic depth. Last verified May 2026.

How to pick a Toronto clinic for unexplained infertility
The age question shapes everything. Under 35 with unexplained infertility, the standard pathway is three to six cycles of letrozole-stimulated IUI before considering IVF — IUI is much cheaper, less invasive, and works often enough at this age to be worth trying first. Over 38, the calculus shifts toward IVF earlier because per-cycle IVF success rates drop sharply with age and time-to-pregnancy becomes a larger factor than treatment intensity. Ask the clinic specifically what they'd recommend for your age band and how many IUI cycles they'd want before recommending IVF.
Diagnostic depth is the second signal. A 'normal' fertility workup often skips meaningful tests: DNA fragmentation analysis on sperm (relevant for ~30% of 'unexplained' male partners), deeper immune testing, advanced thyroid panels including thyroid antibodies, vitamin D, and detailed luteal-phase progesterone tracking. Some Toronto clinics push these tests routinely; others only run them if the patient asks. Ask the clinic what their 'next-level' workup looks like for unexplained patients before defaulting to treatment.
Finally, ask about IVF-with-PGT-A specifically. For unexplained infertility patients under 38, PGT-A on IVF cycles doesn't dramatically improve outcomes and adds significant cost. Over 38, PGT-A becomes increasingly indicated as embryo aneuploidy rates rise. A clinic that recommends PGT-A for every unexplained patient regardless of age is over-prescribing; a clinic that adjusts recommendations to your age is being more thoughtful.
- Given my age, how many IUI cycles would you recommend before suggesting IVF?
- What 'next-level' diagnostic testing do you offer for unexplained infertility patients?
- Do you routinely test sperm DNA fragmentation for unexplained cases?
- When would you recommend PGT-A for an unexplained infertility patient in my age band?
- What's your per-cycle IUI success rate for unexplained infertility patients my age?
- How do you decide when to switch from IUI to IVF — number of cycles, age, or other factors?
Frequently asked questions
Which Toronto fertility clinics treat unexplained infertility?
+
Most Toronto IVF clinics treat unexplained infertility, but their approaches vary — some default to IVF after a basic workup, others push diagnostic testing further before treatment. The list below filters our directory to clinics with published experience in unexplained infertility care.
Should I do IUI or IVF for unexplained infertility?
+
Under 35, the standard pathway is three to six cycles of letrozole-stimulated IUI before considering IVF. Over 38, going directly to IVF often makes more sense because per-cycle success rates drop with age. Between 35 and 38, the answer depends on individual factors — ovarian reserve, duration of infertility, and patient preference. Ask your clinic for their specific recommendation based on your age and workup.
What additional testing should I ask for if my fertility workup is normal?
+
Standard workups often skip DNA fragmentation analysis on sperm, detailed immune panels, advanced thyroid testing including antibodies, vitamin D, and luteal-phase progesterone tracking. If your basic workup is normal but you've been trying for over a year, ask your clinic whether any of these additional tests are appropriate for your case.
Will OFP-funded IVF cover unexplained infertility in Toronto?
+
Yes — Ontario Fertility Program funding for IVF is available for unexplained infertility on the same terms as any other patient. OFP does not cover IUI cycles; if you're pursuing IUI before IVF, those cycles are typically $400–$800 per cycle out of pocket plus medication.
How long should I keep trying with unexplained infertility before going to a clinic?
+
Standard guidance: under 35, see a fertility clinic after 12 months of trying; over 35, after 6 months; over 38, sooner still. Once you're at a fertility clinic, the workup typically takes 4–8 weeks, and treatment decisions follow from the results. Don't wait longer than this — time-to-treatment matters more than treatment intensity once you're in the workup window.
