The Ontario Fertility Program (OFP), funded through OHIP, covers one IVF cycle per patient per lifetime for Ontario residents under age 43. What is the age limit for OFP-funded IVF?

The person undergoing IVF must be under 43 at the start of the cycle. There is no age cap for funded IUI or for medically indicated fertility preservation.

Is egg freezing covered by OHIP?

Fertility preservation is funded by OFP only when there is a clear medical reason — most commonly upcoming cancer treatment or gender-affirming care. Elective or age-related ("social") egg freezing is not covered.

How many funded IUI cycles does OFP cover?

OFP funds unlimited IUI / AI cycles with no age cap and no lifetime maximum, provided you're an Ontario resident with valid OHIP. Medications and donor materials are still out of pocket.

Does OFP cover fertility medications?

No. The Ontario Fertility Program covers clinical procedures but does not cover medications. Stimulation drugs, trigger shots, and progesterone typically cost $4,000–$8,000 per IVF cycle and are paid out of pocket or through private drug coverage.
